Chiefs’ Xavier Worthy gets good injury news as Super Bowl rematch vs. Eagles in Week 2 approaches

Finally, some good news for the Kansas City Chiefs and Xavier Worthy.

His season got off to a brutal start. Three snaps in, he was collided with by Travis Kelce, and it led to a dislocated shoulder for Worthy, who didn’t return to that Week 1 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers.

Worthy didn’t practice on Wednesday, either. The Chiefs are preparing for a Week 2 clash with the Philadelphia Eagles, a Super Bowl rematch.

But on Thursday, Worthy was set to practice. Chiefs reporter Matt McMullen reported that he would take the practice field “in some capacity.”

Worthy’s official practice participation will come out later Thursday with the injury report.

The Chiefs went into their opener with a Worthy-heavy gameplan that was ruined pretty much immediately, and they never quite got on track.

They’ll likely be much more cautious in planning Worthy’s involvement this week, but the fact that he’s practicing at all is a good thing.

Even if Worthy doesn’t quite get up to speed for Week 2, it’s a great sign that he can conceptually be back sooner rather than later.

With Worthy out for most of Week 1, Hollywood Brown had 10 catches, and JuJu Smith-Schuster added five grabs.

Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid would surely prefer to have the super fast Worthy on the field, even as a partial decoy.

It looks like it might be a close call as to whether Worthy is back to health in time.
