Some Stephen Colbert fans were left fuming as actress Sydney Sweeney, who has recently been entangled in controversy, was welcomed onto The Late Show.

On Thursday, Nov. 6, Sydney sat down for an interview with the 61-year-old talk show host, where she dished on her childhood acting experiences, her first experience going skydiving, and her newly released biopic, Christy.
But as the 28-year-old star opened up about her life and career, some viewers at home were fuming that Stephen was “giving her a platform” after she participated in a “racist” campaign for American Eagle, and has been reported to be a registered Republican and a rumored supporter of President Donald Trump.

Following a clip of their interview on Instagram, fans took to the comment section to express their frustrations with the interview. One person asked, “Why are we giving this person a platform?”

Another critic added, “After this interview, it’s clear why she’s MAGA. Trump said smart people don’t like him. I agree.”
While a third wrote, “Isn’t she a supporter of the very same people that got you fired?”
Someone else commented, “boooo it’s never too late to pull the episode.”
While another person wrote, “It’s so funny seeing Stephen trying to engage with paint drying on a wall….he did his best with her weird scripted responses.”

In the video of the interview, Stephen pulled up a photo of Sydney going skydiving and jokingly asked her, “Why would you do this? Do you like heights?”

To which she laughed and replied, “No, I’m scared of heights!” To which he replied, “It’s very high I take it.” Sydney confirmed, “It’s terrifying.” Stephen then repeated, “So again, why did you do it?”
Sydney then hesitated and said, “Well, I’m in the year of trying new things. So I decided to jump out of a plane!” He then asked, “How do you prepare for that?”
She then explained, “Well, my cousins and I went out to the town which is like three bars and one church and we went bar hopping until 3 a.m. and then went skydiving at 6.” To which Stephen asked, “Did you show up still drunk?” And she jokingly said, “I was a little worried stuff would come out, yeah. I would not be the only thing falling out of the sky.”
Sydney previously shared her love for adventure and adrenaline-pumping activities on her appearance on Good Morning America this week. During her television appearance, the former Anyone But You star said that in addition to skydiving, she also has a love for mixed martial arts (MMA), grappling, wakeboarding, slalom water skiing, snow skiing, and more.
