With the Texas Senate race approaching, more Democratic candidates are stepping forward to challenge Republican incumbent John Cornyn.

Last month, former Dallas Congressman Colin Allred officially launched his campaign, and CBS News reports that he received an endorsement from Fort Worth Congressman Marc Veasey. Austin State Rep. James Talarico also announced his bid to represent the Democratic Party in the upcoming Senate election, claiming more than 100 endorsements statewide.

“We’ve earned the support of public officials all over the state of Texas, from El Paso to Beaumont, from our biggest cities to our smallest towns,” Talarico said during an interview with CBS News. “Elected officials and community leaders are uniting to take on this broken political system and finally create a Texas that works for regular working people.”

Meanwhile, speculation continues to grow around whether U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett of Dallas will enter the race. Crockett has said her decision will depend on her standing in polls, both for the Democratic primary and the general election.

Texas has not elected a Democrat to statewide office in more than 30 years.

When asked about Crockett possibly joining the race, Talarico said he welcomed the competition. “It makes all of us stronger. So, I welcome more competition in this primary,” he said. “I think it’s a good thing for this movement that’s trying to change the politics of our state and end one-party rule.”

Allred also expressed respect for Crockett. During an interview with CBS News, he said, “I’ve got a lot of respect for Jasmine. She’s a friend, and she’s certainly a fighter for her constituents, and I certainly appreciate that as somebody who’s from Dallas.” He added that his focus remains on Republican opponents.
