The country singer made a name for himself in early 2025, when he was a contestant on season 23 of the ABC series. John eventually placed second (behind Jamal Roberts), and since then, he’s been making appearances all over the country. And though he’s also released new songs throughout the summer, it looks like he may have something new up his sleeve.
On September 4, John shared a photo of himself in a recording booth on Instagram. And while he didn’t exactly share all the details behind his latest stint in the studio, he did assure fans that it’ll involve something they’ll be excited about.
“Can y’all guess what I’m up to?” he asked in he caption. “Here’s a hint—it involves country music!”

Given the fact John asked his followers to figure out what new project he’s working on, folks came through with some strong guesses.
“Recording some new tunes?! Stoked to hear whatever it is you’re working on! ,” one person wrote in the comments. “ HOPE IT IS SHARING THAT AMAZING GIFT YOU HAVE!!!” another shouted. “Recording your first album!! Can’t wait ,” a different follower guessed.
Even though it’ll likely be some time before we find out what John is doing, we’re sure intrigued by all the things he has going on! And if that’s not enough, folks actually got the chance to see him reunite with American Idol judge Carrie Underwood when they both performed separately at the Grand Ole Opry earlier in September.
“Reunited at the @opry! ,” the caption read when American Idol‘s social team shared the moment on Instagram on September 14.
Looks like we’ll have to keep an eye out for John’s next big move!
