Legends Unite: James Burton, Emmylou Harris, and John Foster Team Up for a Concert That Gives Back to Local Schools. WN

Renowned musicians James Burton, Emmylou Harris, John Foster and other talent will give a concert benefitting the James Burton Foundation and Bossier schools.

Legendary guitarist James Burton grew up in Shreveport where he began his career at 14. He wrote the music for “Suzie Q” and worked at the Louisiana Hayride radio show. He was Elvis’ band leader until Elvis’ passing in 1977.

Burton has played on thousands of recording sessions with artists such as Frank Sinatra, Johnny Cash, Merle Haggard, Buck Owens, Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris, John Denver, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis Costello, Linda Ronstadt, Tina Turner, The Beach Boys, Glen Campbell, Bob Dylan, and Roy Orbison.

Headlining the concert will be 14-time Grammy award winner and Country Music Hall of Fame member Emmylou Harris, and Burton will perform with her, according to event chair Janie Landry.

Other special guests will be “American Idol” finalist John Foster, Johnny Owens and Marty Haggard, sons of country legends Buck Owens and Merle Haggard,  Australia’s country star Angus Gill, and Louisiana Music Hall of Fame members Johnny Earthquake and the Moondogs will also play.

Kylie Small, 18, a recent Haughton High School graduate and rising Nashville star was recently added to the list of performers.  Music-Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame

Burton has been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, The Musicians Hall of Fame, The Academy of Country Music Hall of Fame, The Rockabilly Hall of Fame, The Louisiana Music Hall of Fame, The Fender Guitar Hall of Fame and is a multi-Grammy winner.

Proceeds from the concert will benefit The James Burton Foundation. Founded in 2005, the foundation supports music education and donates guitars and music instruction to schools, veterans, and children’s hospitals throughout the United States and Europe.

Funds raised will supply guitars and resources for Bossier Parish schools to launch a new music education program designed to teach music and inspire creativity, confidence, and self-expression, according to a news release.

The concert will be at 8 p.m. on Nov. 7 at the Riverdome at Horseshoe Casino & Hotel-Bossier City
