Blue Jays vs. Dodgers Game 3 — Tyler Glasnow takes the mound to give L.A. the edge in a deadlocked World Series. lt

Asking Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Tyler Glasnow to follow up Yoshinobu Yamamoto in Game 3 of the World Series would be folly. You can’t expect every pitcher on the Dodgers to turn in a dominant, complete-game performance on the sport’s biggest stage. But Glasnow is looking to carry Yamamoto’s momentum into Monday’s contest. Glasnow, who has a 0.68 ERA this postseason, is trying to give the Dodgers the lead in the 2025 World Series with a win against the Toronto Blue Jays in Game 3.

Toronto sends veteran Max Scherzer to the mound to oppose Glasnow. Scherzer knows a thing or two about pitching in big games. The veteran has 31 playoff appearances over his Hall of Fame career and has won two World Series championships, leading the Washington Nationals and Texas Rangers to titles.

Scherzer, 41, is coming off his worst season in the majors, but he found a way to turn back time in his one playoff start so far, allowing just two runs over 5 2/3 innings during Toronto’s win over the Seattle Mariners in Game 4 of the ALCS. If Scherzer can repeat that performance Monday, he would give the Blue Jays a shot at a 2-1 lead in the series.

    Blue Jays 3, Dodgers 2

Tyler Glasnow hung a curveball and Alejandro Kirk gave it a ride. A three-run homer gives the Blue Jays the lead in the fourth inning. Two mistakes (the Vlad Jr. walk and Edman error) come home to roost there.

After a Vladimir Guerrero Jr. walk, Tommy Edman whiffs on a hard grounder from Bo Bichette to give the Blue Jays runners at the corners with no outs. Tight spot for Glasnow.

    Scherzer down through three

Scherzer has thrown 60 pitches through three innings with two no-doubt home runs allowed to Teoscar Hernandez and Shohei Ohtani. His stuff has generally looked quite crisp from both a velocity and movement standpoint, but the margin for error in terms of location is rather small against this Dodgers lineup, and that’s why the Blue Jays are currently down 2-0.

It’ll be interesting to see how long John Schneider lets Scherzer ride with a fresh bullpen available. At the very least, it’s awfully hard to imagine Scherzer will face Ohtani a third time

Meanwhile, Max Scherzer is up to 60 pitches through three innings. You have to wonder if the Blue Jays even have him face Shohei Ohtani a third time.

Smith singles to right field, but Blue Jays right field Addison Barger’s throw beats Freddie Freeman to the plate by a mile to keep this a two-run deficit. Remember when we said Freeman is one of the slower players in MLB?

Call stands, Freeman is safe at second with two outs and a full count for Will Smith.

Freddie Freeman is one of the slower players in MLB, but he’ll still steal a base if you don’t pay attention to him. He takes second, but the Blue Jays are challenging the safe call. Looks like it’s going to be close.

Shohei Ohtani wasn’t fooled by Max Scherzer

With the count 1-1, Scherzer was able to sneak a fastball by Ohtani up and in under his hands. After the two-way cheat code fouled off a few two-strike pitches, Scherzer went back to the heater again. And boy oh boy, did it not work. Ohtani turned the heater around into the right-field seats to give LA a 2-0 lead. It’s the second long ball of this World Series for Ohtani, who went yard in Toronto’s blowout Game 1 win.

    Dodgers 2, Blue Jays 0

Shohei Ohtani is halfway to a cycle. He takes a pitch on the inside corner and blasts it 101.5 mph into the right field stands for a solo homer.

Tyler Glasnow looking sharp so far

Tyler Glasnow looks to be in command early, which is great news for the Dodgers. L.A.’s right-hander has been able to stay away from the Blue Jays’ barrels. Neither of the two singles Glasnow has allowed so far traveled over 90 mph. After Teoscar Hernández gave him the lead with his second-inning solo shot, Glasnow looks to continue his solid outing the second time through Toronto’s order.

Andy Pages made an out. 4-for-43 this postseason, while playing for the absolute worst team to have the No. 9 hitter be a free out.

Tyler Glasnow posts another 1-2-3 inning, finishing the job with a Nathan Luke strikeout. He’s back to looking sharp after an iffy second inning.

Pitch count: 37, which means the Dodgers are threatening another long start from their rotation.

Max Scherzer’s mistake gives the Dodgers the lead

Teoscar Hernandez wasn’t going to miss another mistake. A few pitches before the Dodger outfielder clobbered a Max Scherzer slider into the seats for a 1-0 lead, Hernandez swung and missed at a poorly-located breaker earlier on in the at-bat. That first pitch ended up in the middle of the plate, but was down enough to fool Teoscar. Not so much for the slider that ended up a souvenir. That one, Scherzer left over the middle around Tesocar’s letters and the big-swinging outfielder did not miss.
