A 48-year-old woman died after she was struck by a train while walking her dogs in Illinois over the weekend, officials said.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim as Daniella Weisman from Glencoe, a spokesperson confirms to PEOPLE. Weisman’s cause of death is listed as multiple injuries from being struck by a train and the manner was ruled an accident.

The incident occurred shortly after 9:30 a.m. local time on Saturday, Sept. 6 and Weisman, who lived locally, was hit by a train along Metra’s Union Pacific North railroad line, a Metra spokesperson tells PEOPLE. Metra trains serve six counties in the Chicago area, according to the company’s website.

The spokesperson, who reviewed a tape of the incident, says Weisman was struck in a suburban area without a sidewalk.

The train engineer saw Weisman and began blowing a horn and initiating emergency braking procedures, but by then, according to the company, it was too late.

Weisman was pronounced dead at the scene. One of her dogs was killed alongside her, the spokesperson said, while the other ran away.

“There are railroad gates and flashing lights, and she would have had to go past them,” in order to cross at the roadway, the spokesperson said, sharing that an investigation revealed that Weisman was wearing either headphones or earbuds at the time of the incident.

In 2017, the mother of three told the Pioneer Press she was from Brazil, where she met her husband, and had experience working in the fashion industry.
