Chicago Sky Guard Courtney Vandersloot is done for the season! The two-time WNBA champion tore her right ACL and will miss the remainder of the 2025 season. Notably, during the Sky’s 79-52 loss to the Indiana Fever on Saturday, the 15-year veteran suffered a painful knee injury in the first quarter. Down while grabbing her right knee, Vandersloot was carried to the locker room by the trainers.

Soon, the Sky ruled her out for the rest of the game. According to the team, the 36-year-old underwent an MRI later in the day, which revealed that she sustained a right torn anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). The Sky further revealed that she will miss the remainder of the 2025 WNBA season, and will undergo surgery to repair the injury.

Notably, the five-time WNBA All-Star played all seven games for the Sky so far in the ongoing season. She averaged 10.6 points, 3.1 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game this season. Sky's Courtney Vandersloot tears right ACL, will miss rest of season after  leaving loss to Fever early - Yahoo Sports

How Did Vandersloot Suffer the Injury?

Notably, Courtney Vandersloot suffered the injury during the Sky’s clash with the Indiana Fever on Saturday at the United Center. In the first quarter of the game, when the hosts were down 9-6, Vandersloot drove to the basket and moved past Aari McDonald. Vandersloot tried to go for a layup and drew a foul on the Fever star, and as she was about to shoot, she landed on her right foot, which seemingly put sudden pressure on the knee.

She immediately went down on the court and immediately cried out in pain. Notably, Vandersloot, who began her career with Sky in 2011 and helped them win their first WNBA title in 2021. Later, she left the franchise in 2023 and joined the New York Liberty in a two-year deal, where she made two finals appearances and won one trophy. After her tenure with them, the Washington native became a free agent and signed a $185K contract with her previous team.
