  • Kyle Pugh died in March 2022, a day after suffering a violent attack by his wife Amy Pugh
  • Amy waited 20 minutes after the attack to call emergency services and told emergency personnel Kyle hanged himself
  • The investigation revealed she had “compressed” Kyle’s neck following an argument between the couple

A U.K. woman has been sentenced in the 2022 murder of her husband, which she initially told police was a suicide.

The victim, 29-year-old Kyle Pugh, was killed in a “violent incident” in their Newport home on March 22, 2022, by his wife 34-year-old Amy Pugh, the Crown Prosecution Service said in a statement.

Amy, who was convicted in June of this year, was sentenced on Thursday, Sept. 4, to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 13 years and 77 days for Kyle’s murder, per the CPS statement.

During the March 2022 incident, Amy “compressed” Kyle’s neck following an altercation, the court heard. Amy hit Kyle, who then struck her back. Then, Amy grabbed Kyle, pulled him down and further attacked him by compressing his neck, which caused “fatal injuries,” the CPS said.

She waited 20 minutes before calling emergency services and was seen administering CPR to her husband when emergency personnel arrived. She then told them Kyle had hanged himself with a belt.

During the emergency call, the court heard, she could be heard saying, “Kyle, wake up, why have you done this?” the BBC reported.

When police and paramedics responded to the scene, Amy acted distressed and asked, “Has he got a pulse or what? Because there’s a chance that he will survive this stupidity,” the court heard, ITV reported.

Kyle died at the hospital the following day.

Amy was arrested in April of that year and charged months later in November.

On Friday, the judge said Amy “decided to concoct a lie and stage a scene,” per the BBC.

Emily Clewer of CPS said Amy’s “actions that night robbed Kyle Pugh of the rest of his life and deprived his family of their loved one.”

“There is no sentence that can return Mr Pugh to his family, but we hope they are comforted that his killer has been brought to justice,” Clewer said.
