As Prince Harry faces pressure to leave the Invictus Games, speculation grows over his most likely successor

Prince Harry may be compelled to relinquish his role as patron of the Invictus Games — potentially creating a significant leadership void at the helm of the foundation, according to a report.

The Duke of Sussex, who founded the organization in 2014, is no longer seen as beneficial to the charity as he once was, the Daily Mail reports.

According to those close to the situation, Harry’s approach and divisive reputation in the UK stands in the way of his legacy at the foundation.

“The duke has become an increasingly divisive figure, particularly in the Armed Forces,” a source told the outlet. “And that is not good for Invictus.”

“We are all about bringing people together and inspiring those who have suffered hardship. Now, Invictus is firmly established, it might be better if the duke took a step back.”

Should the duke feel pressure to step down from his position at the organization, several members of the Firm would be prepared to step in, insiders claim.

“If Harry were to resign as patron of Invictus, I’m sure they would have no trouble finding a new royal patron,” an insider told the outlet.

The next Invictus Games is set to take place in Birmingham, England in 2027. It’s been reported that the “Spare” author has extended invitations to several senior royals.

However, the royals will have a tricky decision to make.

The Games will open on July 12, 2027 and conclude on July 17 — which coincides with Queen Camilla’s 80th birthday.

Celebration planning for Her Majesty’s big day is already underway, so it’s unclear whether the royals will opt to decline Harry’s invitation.

“It is worrying that such a worthy event seems to be used for PR [public relations] purposes,” the source went on.

“Normally, senior members of the Royal Family would want to attend. It goes without saying that they support the Forces to the hilt, so it would be unfortunate if they felt unable to because of Harry’s presence.”

However, the organization’s CEO, Rob Owen OBE, said in a statement that the Invictus Games is “proud” to have Harry as its patron and founder.

“The Invictus Movement stems from his ideas and his passion for the international community of wounded, injured and sick service personnel and veterans, borne out of his military service experience, and his understanding of the power of sport to change lives and save lives,” he told The Post in a statement.

“The spotlight he brings to the community, and to our work, has changed the perceptions of mental health, of military personnel, and of disability worldwide.”

It’s said that Harry’s invitations represent the first time he has publicly reached out to his family since the royal rift began more than five years ago.

The 2027 event will mark the first time since the Games have returned to the UK since Harry founded and launched the charity in 2014 as multisport Paralympic-styled games for wounded or injured servicemen and veterans.

It remains to be seen whether Harry’s wife, Meghan Markle, and their children Archie and Lilibet will attend. Harry previously insisted this was not an option without “full police protection” — for which he lost his appeal earlier this year.

If the “Suits” alum, 44, opts not to return to her husband’s homeland, it will mark the first Invictus Games she has missed since meeting him in 2016.
