Meghan Markle has shared her favourite parenting tips as summer holidays come to an end and children head back to school. The Duchess of Sussex shared four meaningful tips to help make the transition smoother for a new school year.

The back-to-school tips come after Meghan has just appeared in the second season of With Love, Meghan on Netflix, where she learns how to make crafts and shares cooking experiences with friends and celebrity guests such as model Chrissy Teigen and influencer Jay Shetty.

The tips include writing “a joke” or “poem” and inserting them into your children’s lunchboxes, to taking time to connect as a family at the end of a working day.

The value of a handwritten note

Meghan questions: “Who doesn’t appreciate being thought of?” when she considers sending her children to school with love.

Meghan explained a hand-written note goes a long way. Speaking to People Magazine, Meghan shared: “Scribble something for your little one and tuck it in their lunchbox — a joke, a little poem, your own version of Mad Libs, or just a sentence telling your child what your favourite thing about them is or how much you love them. Who doesn’t appreciate being thought of?”

“And that validation from a parent when they’re going back into school may be just the boost your child needs, whether in pre-K or as a teen. If it’s in your handwriting, even better. Just take one minute to do it; it can go such a long way.”

Adding a backpack surprise

“Nestle a sweet something (not suggesting candy) into their backpack on the first Friday back to school,” the Duchess of Sussex suggests.

“The first week can have a lot of big feelings, and a little nod to let them know you see them is so special. Try a tiny pack of stickers, a funny photo of your family, or an unexpected surprise like something you used to find in a Cracker Jack box.”

Meghan also added her famous catchphrase in a sweet nod to her Netflix show, explaining “Love is in the details”.

Meghan claims her two children like having “breakfast for dinner” similarly to when Meghan was a child.

Therefore, another tip from the Duchess of Sussex is to swap out a sandwich in a lunchbox for “waffles or pancakes”.

Meghan explains: “Swap out a sandwich for waffles or pancakes (you can use the frozen ones), a mini packet or scoop of jam, some bacon, and hard-boiled eggs with salt. “You can have fun with this and decorate the lunchboxes in unique ways every day, but if there’s no time, just the novelty of breakfast for lunch can sometimes be a welcome win!”

Meghan added: “And when in doubt, a few flower sprinkles are fun too!”

Meghan explains the importance of connecting as a family and talking about your “rose” and “thorn” after school, even sharing a wonderful catchphrase used by both Archie and Lilibet.

She adds: “Your rose is a highlight of your day, and your thorn is something that maybe didn’t feel so good or that hurt a little bit. Sharing both is a great opportunity to talk about your days together.
