As the NFL trade deadline approaches on November 4, the Pittsburgh Steelers are looking to boost their offense. The team is seeking a receiver to complement All-Pro DK Metcalf, aiming to bolster quarterback Aaron Rodgers’ offensive options, according to NFL insider Ian Rapoport.
“The Steelers are, once again, in the market for a receiver, sources say,” Rapoport wrote. “Their offense has thrived by featuring multiple tight ends, but the addition of a speed threat to pair with DK Metcalf would help Aaron Rodgers and the offense.”
While Pittsburgh’s offense has thrived with multiple tight ends, adding a speed threat on the outside could create more explosive plays.
Currently, outside of Metcalf, the Steelers lack a proven receiving option. Calvin Austin III, the team’s speedy slot receiver, has not played in the past two games because of a shoulder injury, making the need for added talent in the receiving corps clear. Metcalf himself has pocketed 22 receptions for 406 yards and 4 touchdowns across six games this season, averaging 18.5 yards per catch on 36 targets.
Several receivers have been linked to Pittsburgh in trade speculation. Raiders wideout Jakobi Meyers has accumulated 29 catches for 329 yards this season, could be available before the deadline. The 28-year-old started his professional career in 2019, signing with the New England Patriots as an undrafted free agent. He became a Raider in 2023 and finished the 2024 season with 1,027 yards. However, he will become a free agent after the season, which could make acquiring him a short-term investment for the Steelers.
Other potential targets include New York Jets WR Allen Lazard, Philadelphia Eagles WR A.J. Brown, and New Orleans Saints WR Rashid Shaheed. Shaheed, an impending free agent, has been mentioned in mock trade scenarios involving mid-round draft picks, though contract negotiations could complicate a move. Rumors have also floated about higher-profile names like Miami Dolphins WR Jaylen Waddle and Tennessee Titans WR Calvin Ridley, though teams have shown little willingness to trade them.
Shifting attention from the offense, Pittsburgh’s defense remains a concern, ranking 29th in the NFL in points allowed. Nevertheless, at 4-2, after last Week’s 33-31 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals, the Steelers lead the AFC North by 1.5 games and view adding a reliable wide receiver as a way to make the offense more dangerous, particularly when facing divisional rivals and preparing for a playoff push.
The Steelers will face off with the Green Bay Packers next Sunday.
