Ben Roethlisberger blasts Browns' abysmal performance: “They are worse than I thought”

Ben Roethlisberger critiques Browns’ dismal display

The Pittsburgh Steelers put on a commanding performance against the Cleveland Browns this past weekend, emerging victorious with a score of 23-9. This latest defeat marks the Browns’ 22nd consecutive regular-season loss at Heinz Field, a streak that has drawn the ire of former Steelers’ quarterback Ben Roethlisberger.

Roethlisberger’s sharp commentary

In a recent episode of his podcast, “Footbahlin with Ben Roethlisberger,” the former quarterback didn’t hold back when discussing the Browns’ lackluster showing in Week 6. Entering the game with a dismal 1-4 record, the Browns were unable to improve their standing as the Steelers handed them their fifth loss of the season.

“They are worse than I thought. They are abysmal,” Roethlisberger remarked. “Offense, defense, and I’m not just saying it because it’s Cleveland. I know I like to joke about Cleveland on this show, but they are terrible.” His critique highlighted a particularly troubling aspect of the game: the Browns’ offensive struggles.

Offensive woes and defensive failures

The Browns managed a mere 248 total yards and were limited to three field goals throughout the contest. The struggles were even more pronounced considering that rookie quarterback Dillon Gabriel was at the helm, a position that has not seen much success this season. Roethlisberger’s commentary underscored the stark contrast between expectations and reality for a team that has historically boasted a strong defense.

In a lighter moment, Gabriel was asked how he felt after taking multiple hits during the game. “My mom used to beat my ass when I was a kid, so I don’t think anything will live up to what my mom did. No, I was just playing around, but I’m good,” he quipped, attempting to inject humor into a tough situation.

As the Browns grapple with their ongoing struggles, Roethlisberger’s candid assessment serves as a reminder of the challenges facing the franchise in a competitive division. With a season that has not unfolded as hoped, the Browns will need to regroup and find a way to turn things around if they wish to break free from this downward spiral.
