Patrick Mahomes silences critics once again — Colin Cowherd retracts his take as the Chiefs roar back.mh

Colin Cowherd calls Chiefs a no-excuses team: 'They just make it work'

Clearly, the Kansas City Chiefs sent a strong message to the NFL in prime time: they are more alive than ever and will fight for everything this season. After defeating the Detroit Lions, the top contenders in the National Conference, the Chiefs secured the win thanks to four touchdowns from Patrick Mahomes.

Of Mahomes’ four touchdowns, three were through the air and one on the ground, totaling 257 passing yards and 32 rushing yards. The Texas Tech product was simply dominant, and there was no better stage than against the Detroit Lions. The Chiefs are aiming for the AFC West, where they currently trail the Denver Broncos and Los Angeles Chargers.

Colin Cowherd changes his opinion about the Chiefs

During the preseason, analyst Colin Cowherd said it would become increasingly difficult for the Kansas City Chiefs to remain Super Bowl contenders:

“And Mahomes is older and more expensive. There’s only one Travis Kelce, and he’s probably in his last year. Chris Jones isn’t getting any younger. And the truth is, Mahomes’ coach is 67-and I love Andy, but the likelihood of him physically lasting six or seven more years is probably very small,” Cowherd said in august.

The analyst also predicted that the Denver Broncos would win the division. He may have been right, but the Chiefs’ performance against the Lions made Cowherd reconsider his view of Mahomes and company:

“Everybody’s worst nightmare is now official: The Kansas City Chiefs once again are the best team in professional football,” Cowherd stated a day after Kansas City’s big victory.

The schedule remains challenging for the Chiefs; however, they hold a 3-3 record, and Mahomes’ message was clear: never doubt the three-time Super Bowl winner. Next week, they face the Raiders, with a great opportunity to be above .500 in win percentage for the first time this season.
