It looks like Luke Bryan will have his hands full — with tomato juice — for quite a while! The country music superstar and five-time Entertainer of the Year jumped on social media over the weekend to share that not just one, but two of his dogs, Choc and Boss, got skunked while on a deer hunting trip.
In a brand new video posted on Instagram, on Saturday, Oct. 11, Bryan, 49, revealed how his two furry friends had been holding up since getting sprayed by the wild animal that is known for using a foul-smelling odor as a way to scare off potential predators. With his phone camera, Bryan made his way toward his pets while explaining the unfortunate situation to his fanbase.
“Well, we’re out at the deer farm enjoying our first weekend deer hunting fall break, and this is what happens when Choc and Boss get sprayed by a skunk,” Bryan says in the clip with a subtle smirk in his voice as he pans the camera over to his four-legged friends.
The dogs, a Chocolate Labrador Retriever and an English Cocker Spaniel, appeared to be spending time in a kennel together as they awaited the next steps to get the stench removed from their fur.
“I can smell ‘em from 50 yards away,” the “Love You, Miss You, Mean It” singer added of his dogs, “Tomato juice here we come!”
Fans Are Sharing Their Home Remedies for Removing Skunk Smell
In addition to sharing his skunk-related story with fans and followers, Bryan put out a request to his followers in his caption, welcoming anyone who had “Any tips on removing the smell.” And it appears several folks have their own home remedies for deodorizing and neutralizing the pungent scent.
“Baking soda, peroxide, and Dawn dish soap. Lather them up without water,” one person wrote in the comments section of the post. “Once they are all good and lathered, then rinse with water. Don’t use water first. It activates the smell more!!! Good luck!”
A second person provided a similar recipe, but included the measurements in their post, writing, “To remove skunk smell from a dog, mix a solution of 1 quart of 3% hydrogen peroxide, ¼ cup of baking soda, and 1–2 teaspoons of liquid dish soap. Wear gloves, apply the mixture to your dog’s dry coat (avoiding the eyes), and let it sit for 5–10 minutes before rinsing thoroughly. Follow with a regular pet shampoo bath, and repeat the process if the smell persists.”
A third person, meanwhile, sent out a warning to Bryan, writing, “I think tomato 🍅 juice is a myth!!!!”
