The Pittsburgh Steelers are going into week six of the NFL season sitting atop the AFC North with a 3-1 record. To make it even better, second place (the Cincinnati Bengals) are 2-3 and have a matchup against the Green Bay Packers on deck. However, it would appear Pittsburgh wants to add even more firepower before the trade deadline.

During the past offseason, the Pittsburgh Steelers were active in the trade market. Following the 2024 season, they were involved in three of the league’s biggest trades. It began with the trade of George Pickens. Afterwards, a second-round pick was traded to replace him with DK Metcalf. Last but not least, they acquired Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith via trades of Minkah Fitzpatrick and a fifth-round pick.
With less than a month before this year’s trade deadline, the NFL’s trade market is heating up:
With the Steelers currently leading their division and looking like they have their best chance in years to end a lengthy stretch without a playoff win, they should be one of the teams actively pursuing a trade in the coming weeks.
It seems they may be getting an early start on trying to fix one of their biggest weaknesses.
According to 93.7 The Fan’s Andrew Filliponi, the Steelers reached out to the New Orleans Saints to gauge their interest in potentially trading Rashid Shaheed.

After going undrafted in 2022, Shaheed signed with the Saints. In his second year with the team, he had a breakout campaign, making 46 catches for 719 yards and five touchdowns while also earning himself All-Pro honors on special teams.
He was expected to have even bigger things ahead in 2024 and got off to a solid start. In the first six games of the season, Shaheed made 20 catches for 349 yards and three TDs, but his season was cut short by an injury.
Shaheed is currently coming off of a very strong performance. This past weekend he brought in four catches for 114 yards, including an 87-yard touchdown. That brought his totals for the year up to 22 catches for 288 yards and a pair of TDs.
