Tough Break for Raiders — Quarterback Aidan O’Connell Sidelined 6–8 Weeks After Wrist Injury.tl

Las Vegas might be in the market for a backup quarterback following its preseason finale.

Raiders QB Aidan O'Connell suffered fractured wrist in preseason finale, expected to be out 6-8 weeks

Aidan O’Connell suffered a fractured right wrist on Saturday night and he is expected to be out six to eight weeks, Raiders head coach Pete Carroll announced after the team’s 20-10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

“He fractured his wrist — he’s hurt and it’s going to be a while,” Carroll said. “That’s a big blow for us.”

O’Connell exited the game in the first half after appearing in two series. He was sacked during his first drive, losing a fumble in the process, but returned for the Raiders’ ensuing possession. O’Connell’s night ended having gone 3-of-4 passing for 36 yards.

Maybe Everyone Owes Raiders QB Aidan O'Connell an Apology

Rookie Cam Miller, who has been vying for a roster spot, finished the game from the second quarter on. His extended outing ended with 102 yards on 12-of-24 passing, but a good chunk of those numbers came during the final drive in garbage time.

O’Connell’s injury is a big setback for Las Vegas, especially with the regular season fast approaching. The third-year QB has plenty of starting experience and is thought to be a solid backup behind Geno Smith, who was acquired via trade this offseason.

It’s unlikely the Raiders will feel comfortable with Miller filling that role, but other alternatives may soon emerge as teams trim rosters to meet Tuesday’s 53-man deadline.

The Raiders open the 2025 season in New England on Sunday, Sept. 7.
