Las Vegas Aces guard Jackie Young was dealing with fatigue in Game 1 of the WNBA Finals, telling Aces head coach Becky Hammon that she “just didn’t have it.” But Young brought the energy in Game 2 to go up 2-0 over the Phoenix Mercury.

Young led the Aces to a 91-78 Game 2 win over the Mercury on Sunday with a 32-point performance, tying the playoff career high set in the Aces’ Game 5 semifinal win over the Indiana Fever to advance to the WNBA Finals. Young scored 21 of her 32 points in the third quarter on Sunday, the most in a single quarter in WNBA Finals history. A’ja Wilson finished with 28 points and 14 rebounds.

The Mercury said defense will be a point of emphasis going into Game 3 in Phoenix on Wednesday.

“We really got a lock in defensively, because that’s what we were hanging our hats on,” said Kahleah Copper, who finished with 23 points in Phoenix’s Game 2 loss. Head coach Nate Tibbetts added, “We’re here because of our defense and to give up 89 points in game one and 91 in game two… we have to be better.”
