The NFC West took a collective loss this weekend-except for the San Francisco 49ers, who continue to look like the class of the division. But if you’re a Seattle Seahawks fan looking for a small silver lining in an otherwise rough Sunday, how about a little déjà vu magic from none other than Tyler Lockett? The longtime Seahawk turned veteran presence in Tennessee delivered one of the weekend’s strangest and most pivotal plays, helping the Titans pull off a wild 22-21 comeback win over the Arizona Cardinals.
The Titans trailed 21-3 and looked dead in the water. This was supposed to be Arizona’s game to close out-especially after rookie QB Cam Ward threw a critical interception to Arizona’s Dadrion Taylor-Demerson.
That should’ve iced it for the Cardinals. But what happened next was pure chaos-and Lockett was ready for it.
Taylor-Demerson picked off Ward but never gave himself up. As he attempted to return the interception, he fumbled it with no contact.
The ball ricocheted wildly, got booted into the end zone, and who else but Lockett-ever the opportunist-was there to pounce on it for a Titans touchdown. It’s the kind of heads-up play you don’t often see from a wide receiver nearing the end of his career, much less in such a bizarre defensive-turns-offensive sequence.
It’s been a quiet season statistically for Lockett so far in Nashville-just one catch for six yards in this game, and only seven receptions for 52 yards without a single receiving TD across five games. Clearly, he’s not the go-to guy he once was in Seattle, and there’s a real chance this could be his farewell tour. But what a way to leave a mark.
And if there’s one team that’s probably sick of the sight of Lockett by now, it’s the Cardinals.
Flashback to his massive 2020 overtime performance in Glendale-15 catches, 200 yards, and three trips to the end zone. He torched Arizona that day, and the memories haven’t faded.
With Sunday’s end-zone scoop, Lockett now has 10 career touchdowns against Arizona, more than against any other opponent. Eight of those came in the regular season in Glendale.
As for Arizona? A 2-3 record and a painfully blown lead have them trending the wrong way fast.
It’s not just the loss-it’s how it happened. For a team trying to climb out of mediocrity, these are the kinds of collapses that stick.
So while this wasn’t a great weekend for Seahawks fans in the standings, Tyler Lockett-always a pro, always in the right place at the right time-gave us one more unforgettable moment. And come November, when the Seahawks face the Titans, maybe just maybe, Lockett saves one more trick for his old friends in Seattle.
