Alan Jackson’s “Chattahoochee” Just Got a British Makeover, and It’s Hilariously Perfect. WN

The Brits are on the Chattahoochee.

Alan Jackson's "Chattahoochee" Was Released 30 Years Ago Today

Alan Jackson‘s “Chattahoochee” is, without a doubt, a country music cult classic. It’s well-loved far beyond the walls of country music fans and is truly an all-time classic among music lovers in general.

Released on his third studio album, A Lot About Livin’ (And A Little ‘Bout Love), “Chattahoochee” not only hit #1 on the country charts, but it also became Alan’s first ever song to enter the all-genre Billboard Hot 100 chart, peaking at #46.

32 Years Ago Today: Alan Jackson Hits No. 1 With 'Chattahoochee'

While it’s safe to say that everybody knows the words to “Chattahoochee,” not everybody knows what they mean. Even Waylon Jennings had questions about the song:

“I think Waylon said one time, Waylon Jennings, ‘What the hell is a Chattahoochee?’”

Factually speaking, the “Chattahoochee” is actually a river that runs across northern Georgia, along the Georgia/Alabama border, and down into Florida. But according to AJ, Chattahoochee isn’t just a river, it’s a state of mind:

“The regular working people, the professional people, just trying to do the same things… make a living, raise a family, enjoy life… I learned that there’s a Chattahoochee everywhere.”

And that state of mind can be carried outside of the United States and across the pond to England, according to California comedian Michael Rhys.

Rhys is going viral on TikTok, gaining over one million views in the 24 hours since posting his British version of “Chattahoochee.” The comedian pops onto your screen, sporting a pair of bad teeth, poking fun at the British before diving into the lyrics with a twangy accent.

While Americans might think of “Chattahoochee” as a day drinking tune to listen to while floating on a body of water, Rhys imagines that the Brits are thinking about beans for their version of “Chattahoochee.”

“We laid rubber
On the Birmingham asphalt
We got a little mental
But we never got caught

Down by the river
On a Friday night, right
Pyramid of cans in a pale moonlight
Talking about cars and dreaming ’bout beans
Never had plans, just living for the innit…”

Why is it so bad it’s good?

I need the Girls In Low Places podcast to react to this video to see if this is how the Brits feel about their version of “Chattahoochee.” Even if it’s not accurate, the internet is eating up this rendition of the song and can’t stop giggling at this video.

Check out some of my favorite comments left on the post:

“‘Dreamin bout beans’ made me LOSE IT.”

“Yee haw, mate, innit right, yeah.”

“Country British = Aussie confirmed”

“LIVING FOR THE INNIT.”

“Cha’uh’oochie, what a bah’o’wah’uh.”

“Ain’t we all just living for the innit.”

“A lot about INNIT and a little bout BEANS.”

“I was dying before you even started singing.”

“Should’ve changed Friday night to chewsday.”

“As someone who loves Alan Jackson, this has me losing it.”

“Dreamin bout BEANS.”

Just for fun, take a look at some of the bloopers while you’re here:

This take is hotter than a hoochie coochie. Turn up Alan’s version (and the better version) while you’re here.
