Stephen Colbert howled in disbelief at President Donald Trump for sharing a fabricated AI video on social media “of himself” endorsing miracle “medbeds” from the Oval Office – apparently believing it was real before deleting the post hours later.
The clip, styled as a Fox News report fronted by Trump’s daughter-in-law Lara Trump, included a bogus announcement from the president promising “every American” access to the fictitious machines that supposedly cure diseases, reverse injury damage, and even regrow limbs.
Kicking off The Late Show on Monday night, Colbert delved into the moment with full revelry. The fantastic but fake “medbed” tech, the host joked, was the “least bizarre” part of the entire story.
Rolling back the clip, Colbert said: “What in the ever-loving angel dusted huff rag is that?”
He continued: “The president of the United States, say with me here, the president of the United States posted an AI video of a Fox News report that never happened, featuring a fake version of himself, saying things he never said about a magic foot-growing-back body pod that does not exist, all reported by an AI anchor of his real daughter-in-law.”
He capped it with a withering punchline: “After watching that, I hope they have medbeds so I can regrow my brain back!”
Walking closer and grabbing the camera at either side, he went on: “Do – Do you – Do you understand? Do you understand how crazy that is? Is this working?”
Returning to the stage, he quipped: “It really seems like Trump saw the AI video of himself and thought it was real.”
