Seth Meyers is mourning the death of his beloved dog—and a familiar member of the Late Night with Seth Meyers family.
Meyers shared a tribute to his longtime pet Frisbee on Instagram, announcing that the Italian greyhound passed away just days before her 14th birthday. “RIP to Frisbee, our OG IG who I was happy to go grey with,” Meyers wrote. “She was at her best curled in your lap and patient when we dressed her up like a pilgrim.”
In addition to being known by staffers behind the scenes, Frisbee has appeared in various Late Night segments—including performing for Westminster dog show judges, visiting a dog psychic, and getting dressed up as a Pilgrim for Thanksgiving.
The dog even amazed over 27,000 followers on her own Instagram account, which recognized Frisbee’s birthday as August 22nd.
In his tribute, Meyers revealed that on Frisbee’s last night, she climbed onto the couch beside him as she had done countless times before. “She put her head on my chest and let out this deep sigh, like she was telling me it was okay,” he wrote. “I stayed there with her until she fell asleep, and I’ll never forget that as her way of saying goodbye.”
“Thanks for 14 amazing years, girl,” Meyers wrote to close out his tribute.
Fans also came to know Frisbee as the subject of a running joke between Meyers and close pal Andy Samberg, who regularly expressed his hatred of the dog on Late Night and The Lonely Island and Seth Meyers Podcast. Just weeks ago, Samberg’s ongoing derision of Frisbee resulted in Amy Poehler attempting to prank Samberg into thinking the dog had died.
“He said she looked like a rat,” Meyers explained of Samberg’s anti-Frisbee rhetoric during a recent Late Night audience Q&A.
Meyers has always taken Samberg’s ongoing jabs in good stride. “I said to my wife, ‘I think when Frisbee dies, we should send Andy the bones,’” Meyers told another recent audience.
Meyers accompanied today’s tribute with photos of Frisbee from throughout her life, including one of Meyers snuggled up next to the dog. As Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show host David Frei told Meyers during one of Frisbee’s Late Night appearances, “The real best-in-show dog is the dog who’s sitting next to you at home on the couch.”
Meyers isn’t the only late-night host to have publicly mourned the loss of a pet in recent years. In 2024, fellow late-night host Jon Stewart memorialized his dog, Dipper, while hosting The Daily Show, delivering an emotional on-air tribute to the pet.
