Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams continues to make strides in his NFL career during his second season. In Sunday’s win over the Las Vegas Raiders, Williams appeared to have been under a ton more pressure compared Week 3’s win over the Dallas Cowboys, but he still excelled.
Through the first four games this season, Williams has thrived when defenses bring a blitz. According to Next Gen Stats, Williams has the highest pass touchdown-interception ratio (6:0) and passer rating (136.3) vs. the blitz this season.
When opponents are bringing the most pressure, Williams is thriving, and the game film proves that. Even more so, Williams has used his legs a lot more compared to his rookie season, which limits him having to make desperation throws or plays and hurt his statistics.
The stat is even more eye-opening when reflecting back on last season when the Bears offensive line allowed 68 sacks on Williams in his rookie year. But with new head coach Ben Johnson and an upgraded offensive line, Chicago’s quarterback has thrived.
The success Williams has had early in his second season under his new coaching staff has brought plenty of optimism about the future with Williams as the franchise leader of the Bears. Now it’s about putting it all together. Williams’ rookie season was highlighted by success with his individual statistics, now it’s time for the second-year pro to get the Bears back to being a winning football organization.
