Democrat congresswoman Jasmine Crockett has mocked Donald Trump and Elon Musk, during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
It follows a viral moment during a Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) congressional hearing on the inclusion of trans athletes in female competitions, held after a cisgender female fencer was disqualified for refusing to compete against a transgender opponent.
Crockett used her time to draw attention to Republican efforts to paint trans people as inherently dangerous rather than focusing on actual problems.
Asked by Colbert about where the idea came from, Crockett said: “I needed to keep it simple. Especially when trying to send a message to him [Trump], gotta keep it very simple,” she joked.

The same was true of the hearing’s chairwoman, Republican representative Marjorie Taylor Greene, Crockett added.
“I wanted to be clear, there was no reason we were having a hearing about who can play what sports. I wanted to redirect and make sure the American people knew that this was nothing but a distraction. Sometimes coming up with something very plain and very simple is the best way to go. That’s why I did it.”
Crockett then listed mistakes she believed the administration has made, including threatening to arrest members of congress, instituting tariffs which resulted in rising prices, and upsetting America’s closest allies.
She drew a distinction between herself and congressional colleagues and the “big guy in the White House who has spent 25 per cent of his time golfing”.
