It was almost the same exact ending Chicago Bears fans have seen over the last few years, until the final result. This time, Chicago pulled out a victory instead of enduring a devastating loss. Everything went wrong for the Bears in this football game. After a great game by this offense one week ago, the Bears returned to being one of the worst offenses in the NFL. Even though Geno Smith gave the Bears numerous opportunities, all this offense could get was a field goal.
The Bears once again could not run the ball. For majority of this game, D’andre Swift was frustrating to watch. In the fourth quarter, however, he came up big for the Bears in their-game winning drive. Caleb Williams struggled in this game at times, but he drove this team down the field to win this game. If there was not a throw available to make, he got the first down with his legs. The Bears’ young quarterback showed he could be clutch at the end of this game.
Big-moment Bears
The Bears’ defense forced many turnovers in this game, but they still could not stop the run. Ashton Jeanty had his breakout game against the Bears. Jeanty could do no wrong in this game. On 3rd and 2 with 43 seconds left, the Bears’ defense showed up and stopped the run. The defense followed that up by blocking a field goal, ensuring the Bears’ victory. Just about everybody that needed to show up in the big moments in this game did so for the Chicago Bears, regardless of how poorly they played in the first three quarters.
Ben Johnson difference
This is the type of game we saw Matt Eberflus lose all the time. This game showed me this Bears team is different. Usually in this situation the Bears are getting their field goal blocked to lose the game. Not every game will be as perfect as the game against Dallas. There will be games where the Bears have to outfight a team for a tough victory. This time we saw the Bears be the team that won a close football game when they did not deserve it.
Momentum and health
What a huge victory this is for the Bears, who now enter their off week 2-2. The Bears had many key starters out of this game who will now be able to rest and be ready for the Bears’ Week 6 matchup against the Washington Commanders.
Changing the vibe
Games like this decide how the rest of the season goes. The Bears showed that they unlike previous Chicago teams, they can win in many different ways. Last season, the Bears’ season was destroyed by a hail mary. This season could be successful because of a blocked field goal.
Win over Cowboys looks better
The Bears’ win over Dallas might have been the product of how bad the Cowboys’ defense is, but when considering how good Dak Prescott was against the Green Bay Packers on Sunday night, in a game the Packers did not win, the Bears’ blowout of the Cowboys now looks a lot better. There is real hope in Chicago.
