DUBLIN — While some players might be focused on a pint of Guinness or exploring some of Ireland’s history in their short free time, Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver DK Metcalf is far more focused on the task at hand.
Metcalf, known for his stoic nature, said that he is only here to catch footballs and not much else, and while seeing the city on the flight out and to the stadium by bus on Sunday will be cool, he is focused on beating on the Minnesota Vikings.
“I’m not trying to explore. I’m here for the football game. I’ll see everything on the flight in, flight out and drive to the stadium. I’m here to play football,” Metcalf said.
Through three games, Metcalf has been a focal point of the Steelers’ offense and has a touchdown in each of the last two games. Metcalf is treating this special occasion as just another football despite knowing the significance of it to both the Rooney family and the league.
There are plenty of players taking the same approach as Metcalf, but embracing the culture of the Ireland while also doing it. Metcalf is just one of the few treating it far more as a business twist and recognizes the challenge of the Vikings at hand.
