Queen Camilla’s gesture to Princess Charlotte after curtsy fail resurfaces in the wake of her Princess Catherine ‘shooing’ controversy
A recently resurfaced video has revealed Camilla’s surprising gesture to then eight-year-old Charlotte after the young Princess made a faux pas towards her at the King’s Coronation Concert.
An exchange between Queen Camilla and Princess Charlotte has resurfaced online, showing the Queen’s surprising reaction after the young royal’s curtsy mishap.
The clip, originally broadcast by the BBC during King Charles III’s Coronation Concert at Windsor Castle on May 7, 2023, shows the newly crowned King and Queen taking their seats in the front row of the royal box.
They were greeted by senior royals including the Duke and Duchess of Gloucester, Princess Catherine, and her daughter Princess Charlotte.
Charlotte, just eight at the time, remembered to curtsy to her grandfather but appeared to forget to do the same for Camilla.
Rather than letting the moment linger, the 77-year-old Queen responded with warmth- placing her hand lovingly on Charlotte’s shoulder, smiling, and saying hello to her step-granddaughter.
The graceful gesture seemed to reassure Charlotte, who went on to enjoy the concert.
She was spotted happily waving a Union Jack during Katy Perry’s performance of Roar, singing along with the 20,000-strong crowd.
“What a sweet moment between Charlotte and Camilla, God bless the Royal Family!” one Instagram user commented after the video resurfaced.
Another noted: “Remember, she’s still only a child – they forget things! And do they really still have to curtsy?”
Charlotte, seated between her mother and her older brother Prince George, was particularly animated when her father, Prince William, stepped onto the stage to deliver a speech to honour the King.
She pointed him out excitedly to George, beaming with pride as he addressed the audience.
While little is publicly known about Charlotte’s relationship with Camilla, she is understood to be especially close to her maternal grandparents, Michael and Carole Middleton.
Carole became a strong presence in the Wales children’s lives during Catherine’s cancer treatment in 2024.
Speaking to The Telegraph, Carole once reflected: “My family are paramount. They come first and that will always be the case, even when I have more ‘me time’.”
Royal expert Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty magazine, has also highlighted the Middletons’ role: “The Middletons are a really close family. Carole is a very hands-on grandmother, and I’m sure she will be at the helm. She often picks the kids up from school.”
The Middletons live in Bucklebury, Berkshire, a short drive from the Prince and Princess of Wales’ Windsor home, making them a constant and reliable presence in George, Charlotte, and Louis’ lives.
