With an open practice squad spot and a need for experienced depth along the offensive line, the Green Bay Packers brought back offensive lineman Lecitus Smith to the practice squad on Wednesday.
Smith, a sixth-round pick of the Arizona Cardinals in the 2022 draft, spent time with the Packers during each of the last two seasons, including a stint on the practice squad in 2024 and during training camp this year. Smith has starting experience at guard (two games as a rookie with Cardinals) and is an option at center after being cross-trained there with the Packers over the last two seasons.
Smith played 72 snaps at center over three preseason games with the Packers this summer. In 2024, Smith played 79 snaps at left guard, 41 at center and three at right guard during the preseason.
The Packers are hurting for depth along the offensive line, where Zach Tom is dealing with an oblique injury and Aaron Banks has a groin injury. The team signed rookie Brant Banks from the practice squad on Tuesday, opening a spot for the signing of Smith.
With Banks now on the 53-man roster, Smith and rookie Dalton Cooper are the only offensive linemen on the practice squad. Cooper, an undrafted rookie out of Oklahoma State, was signed after final cuts.
