The Philadelphia Eagles are off to a 3-0 start, but that won’t stop them from continuing to explore ways to strengthen their roster.
The cornerback position was a hot topic throughout the summer after Darius Slay signed with the Pittsburgh Steelers in free agency. Veteran corner Adoree’ Jackson has been serviceable, but with Jakorian Bennett now on injured reserve, the Eagles could use another talented player.
According to ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler, the Eagles “might not be done at cornerback” and could look into potential trades around the league.
“Injuries over the next month could be the big determining factor, but I usually start these conversations with the most aggressive general managers. Philadelphia’s Howie Roseman and Houston’s Nick Caserio have been among the most active dealmakers in recent years. While Roseman is usually trying to add, Caserio and the 0-3 Texans could be a few losses away from wanting to deal players for picks. I still think the Eagles might not be done at cornerback and could survey the market.“
The Eagles have already been active on the trade front, acquiring Bennett, offensive lineman Fred Johnson, and running back Tank Bigsby over the last two months.
Quinyon Mitchell is firmly entrenched as the Eagles’ star cornerback and has yet to surrender more than 31 receiving yards in a game this season. Locking down the other side could help Philadelphia navigate a tough NFC and make a push for back-to-back Super Bowl titles.
