As they prepare to eventually take the British throne, Kate Middleton and Prince William are doing things their own way — no matter what precedent King Charles may have set in the past.
Every year, the royal family releases their financial report, also known as the Sovereign Grant Report, and the 2024-2025 edition arrived on Tuesday, June 1, when it was published to the royals’ official website.
This year, the report brought a few interesting details of the royals’ back account to light, like the fact that the grant remained steady at £86.3 million for the fourth year in a row, and that the Royal Train will be decommissioned in 2027.
But another fascinating detail about the royals’ lives that we can glean from the report is that Middleton and William have chosen to be less transparent about their family’s household staff — the opposite of the standard of total transparency previously set by Charles.
As GB News points out, all we can learn about the Wales’ staff from the report is that it grew by two members over the last year. While Charles would have disclosed breakdowns of his employees, like housekeepers, chefs, and gardeners, William and Middleton have simply chosen to share that they have a staff of 68.
This break with tradition may be the couple’s way of reclaiming some privacy around their lives while they still can — after all, they do have three young children in the household to think about, while that hasn’t been the case for Charles in a long time.
William and Middleton are also said to prefer quieter lives in their home at Adelaide Cottage, so maybe this all part of that lifestyle? Either way, their actions in recent months have made it clear that they don’t plan on doing things the way they’ve always been done for the sake of tradition.
