A heartbreaking 2014 country song is currently trending as a wake-up call for men about love and life.

In 2014, Jason Aldean released “Too Fast,” a song about a man who realizes that his fast-paced lifestyle, “making a living but not making a life,” has taken an emotional toll and hurt his relationship. Now he faces a hard question: can he turn things around, or is it too late?
The song is currently at number 38 on TikTok‘s Top 50 list of songs. The song is used by creators in dramatic lip-sync videos that highlight the song’s reflective lyrics.
“Too Fast” appears on Aldean’s album Old Boots, New Dirt. It was released on October 7, 2014.
The song includes the lyrics (per Genius), “I’ve been making a living, not making a life. And knowing that now, well, it cuts like a knife. The way it’s been ain’t how it’s gonna be. Baby, starting right now, gonna give you the best of me.”

Aldean told NPR in 2018, four years after the release of “Too Fast,” that certain songs resonate with him at different times in his life. Therefore, he chooses to record them because the emotions and messages feel especially meaningful in that moment.
“Am I drawn to songs sometimes for personal reasons because I’m going through this or that, or I know somebody that’s going through it? I’m sure I am drawn to certain songs at specific times because of that. But ultimately, for me, I wanna go cut a bad-a** record that’s got songs that I wanna go out the following year and sing live every night.”
The country superstar behind Jason Aldean’s 2014 viral hit song
Country superstar Chris Stapleton and Lee Thomas Miller are credited as writers on Jason Aldean’s song “Too Fast” per Apple Music. Stapleton also provided background vocals on the track, and thus far, its the only time that he and Aldean have collaborated on a song.
Stapleton began his career as one of the most popular songwriters on Music Row after moving to Nashville in 2001. He penned hits for Aldean, Adele, Alison Krauss, Sheryl Crow, Tim McGraw, George Strait, Kenny Chesney, and Luke Bryan, among others, reported Country Living.
The same year he wrote “Too Fast” for Aldean, Stapleton released his debut album, Traveller, according to Rolling Stone. Throughout his career, Stapleton has been nominated for 26 Grammy Awards, winning 11 thus far. Stapleton has also been nominated for 42 CMA Awards and has won 19.

Jason Aldean’s “Too Fast” resonates with listeners because it’s a song about reckoning with choices, love, and the moments we can’t get back. Chris Stapleton’s co-writing adds an extra layer of authenticity, helping the song resonate with anyone who has felt life move too quickly, which is why it’s connecting with a new generation of listeners on TikTok.
