During his show on Virgin Radio, Ryan Tubridy remembered the time that worldwide singing superstar Michael Bublé requested to meet his mum.

Ryan, who is the new mid-morning host on Virgin Radio UK, previously fronted the Late Late Show; Ireland’s most popular, highest rating TV show, and the world’s longest running chat show. During his time on the programme, he interviewed huge names such as U2, Sinead O’Connor, Tony Blair, Russell Crowe, Hillary Clinton and Ed Sheeran.

Another guest during Ryan’s 14 years as host was his pal Michael Bublé. Remembering one particular occasion, the Virgin Radio presenter said: “My mother’s an amazing woman, she came into the TV show I used to do, The Late Late Show, once when I had Michael Bublé on. And Michael Bublé was in his dressing room, and I went down, and I’d met him a few times. I said, ‘Michael, it’s great to have you back’.

“I said, ‘I’ve got to go, because my mother’s in the green room.’”

Continuing, Ryan told listeners: “[Michael] said, ‘You’re mom’s here?’ And I said, ‘Yeah, yeah.’ He said, ‘Can I meet her?’

“This is a measure of the man. He’s just a very, very cool guy. A real nice guy. I said, ‘Yeah, of course. My mum, she’s fun.’ So, down he comes and I said, ‘Mum, this is Michael Bublé’. She took his head in her hands and looked at him and said, ‘It’s younger you’re getting Michael’, like he was a son-in-law, or something like that, and they ended up having the chats for a few minutes, and it was really, really nice.”

His story was prompted by the singing sensation recording a message for Ryan, in which he described him as an “amazing, fantastical and wonderful friend.”
